CAD modeling music video

I love the band They Might Be Giants. I love designing 3D objects on the computer. I love turning those designs into real objects. I love this song and video!

John Hodgman Loves Crystal Head Vodka

I think his expression says it all. This was the More Information Than You Require book tour show at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. He Twittered earlier that day that it would be helpful if someone could bring a bottle of Dan Ackryod’s Crystal Head Vodka. I think four or more people availed him of it.

It was a wonderful, hilarious evening, featuring Hodgman’s reading from his book of lies and songs by Jonathan Coulton and John Roderick.

Stealth jet video sountrack can’t be unheard

Cnet reports that this “unmanned stealth jet could transform naval aviation”…blah blah blah.
The real story here is what’s up with the super-creepy soundtrack someone dropped onto the concept video? It sounds like Satan’s nephew got a hold of a Casiotone. Special thanks to my wife’s cousin Brian for forcing me to listen to this. I can never unhear it now.

Rockers

My brother-in-law Mike (vocals), and his wife Jamie (guitar) rock hard. They rock the Rock Band so hard that they got on the cover of this magazine in Indianapolis! Having just played Iron Maiden’s Run to the Hills with them this past week I can attest to the quality of their awesome skills.

Hands on with Thingamagoop

My son and I have been watching the YouTube video of these funky little light-sensitive, bleeping robots for the past year. We always crack up when a gaggle of them “panic” as the lights go on (this raises their pitch an octave or so). So I was very excited to get some hands-on time with one at the Maker Faire. Even more exciting, Bleep Labs is making a kit available for sale soon. For $35 we’ll get to build our own from scratch, and make our own enclosure for it. Face stickers will be included.

Kid Beyond

Kid Beyond

Once in a rare moon Kid Beyond makes it down to L.A. for a show. My friend Aaron and I had dinner with him and his sound guy last night and then he played at the Key Club. The show was fantastic.
I remember Andrew from the a cappella days, and as the first vocal percussionist for the House Jacks. Nowadays, he’s still beatboxing as well as live looping songs (he builds lush multi part songs from scratch right on stage — it’s insane). This video is a good introduction to his technique.
And, to tie things together nicely, he’ll be performing at Maker Faire.
