MAKE: TV

I’m so excited to share this: PBS is producing a new TV show called MAKE: and I’m going to be on it! I’m doing the Maker Workshop segment, which means I get to build a cool project for each episode and explain how it all works.

We filmed the first episode a few weeks ago at Twin Cities Public Television’s studios and it was great fun. They’re among the nicest, most creative people I’ve worked with. I just saw a preview edit and it’s looking fantastic.

It should be airing in January ‘09. Here’s more info:

BOLT trailer is up

We’ve got a trailer up for BOLT now. I worked on rigging this fuzzy little guy, Rhino.

VCR bits

I had some cause to re-purpose and cannibalize a few VCRs recently. I love the way this one looks all pulled apart.

Idido Misty Valley

My roaster friend Phil Hand slipped me some of this Ethiopian Idido Misty Valley the other day, and man is it good. I pulled a double shot of it this morning — intense blackberry and blueberry flavors. Single origin espresso is still new to me, but there’s a lot to like about this one.

This tachometer/DC generator may come in handy. For what, I’m not entirely certain.

Rangoon takes flight

The box is safely in the hands of its next caretaker.

My city’s awesome graphic design can beat up your city’s graphic design.

TGIMBOEJ switch

Another little find from the box named Rangoon. A lovely little switch. I’m going to use it on the prank I’m building to exact revenge on Joe Bowers, Mouse Prankster.

Since Joe reads this blog, more details will follow after he’s been gotten. Sorry Joe.

TGIMBOEJ loot

This is one of the items I’m keeping from my The Great Internet Mystery Box of Electronic Junk. It’s a very stylish multi-connector (much nicer than soldering to some DB-9 connectors).
I almost used it in one of my VCR-to-servo motor projects, but ran out of time. Now I’m just looking for an excuse to connect stuff.

Code: Rangoon

Feel the excitement as I open my TGIMBOEJ… The magenta thing on top is the log book for this box.

There are currently nine TGIMBOEJ boxes, the one I have is named Rangoon.

I’ll be posting some photos this weekend of my favorite contents, the junk I’m planning to keep and use for a project.

Then, it’ll be time to add my own junk and send it on its way to the next recipient.
