I made this earbud owl on the Epilog Zing laser cutter using this file from thingiverse: www.thingiverse.com/thing:364
You can buy an acrylic one from the original designer on Etsy.

That’s so cool! Hey, Emily and Thomas might like those, too–thinking of setting up an Etsy shop? Huh, huh, huh?
Ah, I see that someone sells them on etsy in the acrylic–I think the wood is more aesthetically appealing, plus you can do neat woodburning designs on it. ;)
Hey that’s my thing! Cool! Looks great in wood.
Hey, you should coat the inside of the eyes and the slot for the plug with a little latex so the ends stay put. This is great and I can’t wait to try out different rubber (or cork, to keep it looking so nice?) ways to secure the ends.
I wondered when I would see the fluition of your Laser Labors.
Is the wood from an old Cigar Box?
Sweet!
But now I have Tool envy…. ouch….
That is really cool. I have no laser cutter available to me. Could I buy one from you?
Looks like there was one on etsy from seller eagleapex but it has sold out. Hopefully they will update soon as this seems like quite a handy way to store earbuds.
I’ve owned 2 of the acrylic ones from Etsy for a while. They’re pretty adorable.
Very cool! Is that coconut palm?
Could you please give me the full dimensions of this? I would love to make one for my girlfriend for her birthday and right now easiest way for me would be to autoCAD it and send thru a 3D printer. Possibly a photo of it with 1:1 dimensions and I could measure it myself and design it on my computer. Thank you for any help.
Definitely set up an etsy shop! I want one!
You can see the whole design process here: http://eagleapex.com/de/owl-wrap/
Lasercutting wood is a pain. As you can see, the edges are all charred. I am amazed your white cables are actually white! Did you have any problems with this?
Erika, the wood is some scrap merbau I had left over from doing our floors. I’m now on the lookout for nice scraps to lasercut!
FHOLGADO, I assumed my wires would turn black too, but with a minimal bit of wiping with a cloth the charred parts have kept to themselves.
Justin, just go to the Thingiverse link in the post and you’ll have all the dimensions you need to print your own. I’d love to see a photo of that when you’re done.
Eagleapex can make as many as you need, so please do visit his Etsy shop if you want to buy an acrylic owl! http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6773703
Love it! I would love to buy one. If you decide to sell them on Etsy or elsewhere, please email me.
